This handout features a flow-chart style graphic organizer that will help guide students through the process of combining two independent clauses into a single sentence. One branch explains how to combine independent clauses using coordinating and subordinating conjunctions; another branch explains how to combine independent clauses using colons and semicolons.
When I was in school, I didn't understand that verbs could be both "subjunctive" and "present perfect." My teachers would always teach verb tenses, moods, and aspects separately, so it wasn't until I was an adult that I realized how they work together to communicate an idea. Now that I'm working on the other side of the desk, I decided I wanted to make a handout that illustrated the relationships between verb tenses, moods, and aspects.
