A perfect activity to connect the concrete to the abstract using algebra tiles or counters. Students are totally engaged while working on this NO PREP activity! Making zero pairs helps to visualize integer operations. This is a cut and paste that can be done individually or in small groups. (Sometimes I enlarge this page and cut the answers out ahead of time to create a relay race in small groups!) This would be a perfect bell ringer or exit ticket!

Students LOVE playing this game! We use an actual Chutes and Ladders Board with the original game pieces. Students use answers to integer expressions to strategize their win. If their answer is wrong, students lose a turn. A negative answer sends the player backward. (And backward play is also a strategy!) Students ask to play this game all of the time. There are three different skills students can play this game with: Adding and Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing, and Order o
