The Math Crate

In this interactive activity, students will be tasked with solving multiplication word problems by completing the three steps in the C-R-A model: Concrete, Representational, and Abstract. Students will complete these steps using the drag and drop method, keyboard comprehension by inserting asterisks, and using strategies from the C and R phase to write, solve, and justify their answer to a multiplication equation..

Students will provide sums to single digit doubles equations in the answer column. As students answer correctly, colored pixels will appear in the large white space to the right. Once complete, students will see a full picture. Pixels will not appear for incorrect answers, however the answer space for the incorrect equation will still display the tint that corresponds with the pixel. This interactive activity can be assigned to your class through Google Classroom. It can be used to check for understanding of the following multiplication strategies: Constructing Arrays, using Equal Groups, and Repeated Addition. Students will practice these strategies as they complete tasks on six slides by dragging and dropping virtual manipulatives. *** A Google account is required for this activity.

Students will practice building arrays to represent provided multiplication equations and the opposite, writing multiplication equations to represent provided arrays.
