Composite Solids

Here is a short, but somewhat challenging worksheet for students calculating the surface area and volume of a toilet paper roll, a lego brick, pencils, a snow cone, and a hardware nut. The polyhedron bases are either round, hexagonal, or rectangular so none of the more difficult work. Nonetheless, challenging for most geometry students. A solution key is included.

Distance and the Pythagorean Theorem

Students will use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points. They begin by graphing the points, connecting them, and then forming a right triangle. This is the core worksheet from a more complete Lesson Plan, which is also available for purchase. About the store

Experience

I have been teaching for about 10 years, in the California central valley and have recently moved to the Eastern Sierras in California.

Teaching style

Personally I am a conceptual learner and emphasise conceptual learning in my course instruction, but also balance conceptual development with mastery.

My own education history

I started attending a Junior College in Stockton California where I became a perpetual student earning over 130 units while working with a primary focus on math and science. Eventually, I got the idea that I should get on with my life and moved another 50 minutes south to the nearest CSU and earned a bachelor of arts in mathematics. A year later I decided to become a teacher and after working a year as a substitute and going to school at night to complete a master's in education.
