About the store
My name is Merry, and I am a K-5 elementary school Library Media Specialist. Besides reading with kiddos, I am passionate about teaching library skills and championing student intellectual freedom rights. I also teach digital citizenship skills. At my bilingual school, I work primarily with Spanish and English speakers, and I love learning the language and challenging myself to provide materials that will meet the needs of all of our library learners. There is so much to explore in the library!

Editable Slide deck: Library Bill of Rights, Intellectual Freedom, & Censorship

This slide deck is a tool for teaching students about The Library Bill of Rights and their constitutional right to intellectual freedom. It will help you teach about censorship and will encourage students to think about the intersection of government and the right to read and access information. This is a downloadable Powerpoint file with the last slide including a link to the Canva slide deck, which you can copy and edit. To use as is, I would still recommend grabbing the Canva version as Power

Experience

My name is Merry, and I am a K-5 elementary school Library Media Specialist. Besides reading with kiddos, I am passionate about teaching library skills and championing student intellectual freedom rights. I also teach digital citizenship skills. At my bilingual school, I work primarily with Spanish and English speakers, and I love learning the language and challenging myself to provide materials that will meet the needs of all of our library learners. There is so much to explore in the library!

Teaching style

My teaching style is inclusive yet challenging. I seek to make all of my library lessons fun and engaging for my students to grow their love of literacy. Translanguaging is an important part of my teaching style at my bilingual school. It is my goal to not only help the Spanish speakers improve their English but to center and celebrate the Spanish language among my school community.

Awards & shining teacher moments

In 2025, I earned a grant for $2,000 to start a Family Book Club for my elementary school.

My own education history

Before coming to the education world, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with minors in English Literature and Spanish. In 2024, I earned my Masters of Library and Information Science as well as my teaching license.

Additional biographical information

I am a mom of one human child and three fur babies! Besides reading, we love to explore our city's vibrant cultural diversity, make up silly stories and poems on our typewriter, thrift, create, and eat lots of ice cream.
