Working with teacher candidates and new teachers during the induction year, one thing I found that these young teachers struggled with was being able to ask effective questions and delivering explanations. Questions they ask are often closed questions, or are not relevant to what the students had explored. Furthermore the explanations were often non-existent. This package was designed as a continuous professional development workshop for teacher candidates and new teachers to help them strength

This is a workshop for teachers who are still green and growing to learn about strategies to help them plan effective lessons to engage, challenge, and motivate students. The workshop can be carried out as one whole-day session or two half-day sessions allowing the teachers to put into practice ideas introduced here. This lesson explores multiplication by representing and solving problems by introducing students to carry out multiplication through grouping. The problems in this case are associated with a day out on the farm, You will need to set the scene and use the PowerPoint slide presentation to guide students through the problems. Students work out the problems on the accompanying workbook.
