About the store
I started out in a self-contained 3rd grade classroom in 1993. It was there that I learned the value of discovery, inquiry based learning thematic learning. From there, I moved in to the educational technology world for 15 years, teaching computer science classes for a couple years, then spending much of my time working with teachers designing curriculum using technology. Fearing that I was becoming too out of touch with the classroom, I left the leadership role and went back in the classroom in 2016, teaching 6th grade Science. In 2018, I switched back over to teaching computer science.

STEM - Flying Away! Paper Airplane Data Collection - Back to School Activity

This is a great beginning of the of the year activity! Using an inquiry based approach, this worksheet provides structure to collecting data on various forms of paper airplanes. As mentioned in the teacher page, I give very little direction when starting this activity...simply "Make a variety of planes and tell me which one works best!" After a brief safety talk, we let things play out. The best part of this collection tool is how easily learners can use the graph to visualize the results.

This is a simple handout to help guide learner in a Science Class or Physical Education (Wellness) class in creating their own experiment. Learners need to think about: Procedures Materials Variables - Controlled or Independent Language Arts objectives come in to play when writing a conclusion. This is a very good lesson to do as an interdisciplinary lesson with Science and Wellness teachers working together in the gym! It was always a fun day!
