This approach to language and literacy development works GREAT for smaller groups of students who might have trouble sitting still or with a more traditional writing task. It is also super for English language learners. The teacher can be flexible and give more or less scaffolding as needed throughout the lesson. I have only used this format for English language learners as my Foreign Language classes are always bigger than 20. Let me know if you decide to try this out in a Foreign Language

This puzzle will make your students think! And, it is all in simple French. (Also available in Spanish or English) Let students work in pairs, use tape to help them sift through the clues and solve the puzzle. Use it for French club, or leave it for an unplanned substitute activity or a day when technology isn't available in your building. You have to print the houses in color or instruct students to color the houses per the key. It is frustrating but the students who stick it out to the end
