Disney Theme Park Virtual Field Trip with Theme Lesson for Distance Learning

This field field trip is made to be broken apart into two mini field trips, but it can also be done at one time. You can do this with students on Zoom or Google Meet. You could also give them this to do independently. It could also be done in the classroom on an interactive whiteboard. This is a great way to celebrate learning and just have some fun together. It was made in Google Slides. I have another version in my store that is in Google slides but made specifically for Nearpod. The slidesho

Shout Out Positive Reinforcement

I've seen a few shout out forms floating around the internet and other teachers' classrooms, but wanted to change the format and make my own. This file has them in several different color schemes and black and white. There are pages with confetti background and pages without. I have students write something positive about a friend on the paper and turn it in. Then next day the shout outs are on a bulletin board for everyone to see!

Boggle and Noggle on Google Drive for Distance Learning

This is a great game to play on Zoom or Google Meet. It can also be played in the classroom on an interactive whiteboard or on tablets or Chromebooks during center or choice time. Students will need a piece of paper or a whiteboard to write down their answers. I recommend timing the students for 2 or 3 minutes or having them time themselves if they are in a center. For Boggle, they need to write as many words as they can find in the letters. For Noggle, students need to find two numbers that are

Oral Book Report

Oral book reports are great for those students that have difficulty writing. Some of my struggling students have really shined during this activity. Each student can read a book at his or her level and get the other students excited about reading that book. They are expected to give the main problem and events, what they liked about the book, and share a prop that symbolizes something important from the book. Included in this file is a note to parents, a planning guide for students, and a rubric

Ketchup and Pickles Images for What To Do When Done

I hang these on a bulletin board in the back of my room. This tells students what to do when they have any extra time in class. Underneath the ketchup, I list anything students must finish to catch up that week. For example, we started writing a paragraph, and not everyone finished in the time allotted. I can write it down and give them an extra day or two. Under the pickles, students can pick an activity to do like read, browse the classroom library, or play a math game on their computer.

40 Book Challenge Editable Google Drive Reading Log

Every year I challenge my kids to read 40 books across various genres. This form is simple and perfect for use in the elementary grades, but it can be used with older kids as well. You can paste a link at the top to any resource that you choose for reinforcing genres. I link mine to genre posters so the students can see a description of each genre and examples. You could link it to videos or any online resource of your choosing.

Book Report Character Poster

For this project students make a poster that is all about the main character in the book they read. They are required to list character traits, write facts about the character, make a personal connection to the character, and write about an important event the character was involved in. Included in this product are a letter to students/parents about expectations, an example poster, and a rubric for grading.

Ipad or Tablet Rotation Chart

The numbers can be placed in a pocket chart or made into magnets and then used to keep track of whose turn it is to use the classroom tablets or ipads. I have headers that say "Ipads" and "Tablets". I also have headers that include the word "Math" or "Daily 5". I like to have a separate rotation going for each of those times.

"Read" Carpet Book Awards Book Report

For this book report, students have to decide on something outstanding about their book. (I let them choose their own books with teacher and parent approval.) They will present the book with an award in front of the class and in doing so will have to talk about the book from a list of given prompts. They will also give a preview of the book by reading a short selection to their classmates (great way to practice fluency!). This packet includes parent information, prompts for the student, and a ru

Teaching style

I like to switch things up and keep it interesting. I believe in giving students choice but holding them accountable. To me classroom environment and community is crucial to learning. I use whole brain teaching to keep my kids engaged in group lessons. I do a lot of small group and partner work. I use the Daily 5 model for Reading and Math. While students work independently and in pairs, I lead Guided Reading and Guided Math groups and hold individual conferences.

My own education history

I went to Southern Illinois University and got my bachelors in Elementary Education. Go Cougars!
