Read to Someone Check Mark for Check For Understanding

This is to use when your students are reading with a buddy. You print this out on colored card stock, laminate it, then cut it out into the shape of a check mark. The students take this with them while reading together. One student is the "reader" and the other one is the "checker". This helps with comprehension and ensures the students are both on-task when reading. After the "reader" reads, the "checker" asks one of the questions on the check mark. It's the checker's job to make sure the reade

This is a great game to play when introducing biographies and autobiographies.

Comprehension Reading Log Grades 2-5

This is a great reading log to use for grades 2-5. It holds the students accountable for what they read each night and has them reflect each day on what they read. I have my students pick which square they want to do each day and they do the last page when they have finished the book. My second grade students have been using this since the beginning of the year and have grown from DRA 10's to DRA 34's. I had to scaffold the instruction but the time has definitely paid off. You will need to mode

Make Ten Go Fish Math Game Grades 1-3

This is a card game that is designed to give the students practice in putting two or more numbers together to make the total of ten. This is important with mental computation, one of the strategies in adding numbers together is to round to the nearest ten and add on from there. If students can do this quickly and confidently the their adding becomes much faster and they develop the confidence to trust their knowledge of 'equals ten' facts.
