Multiplication using a Chocolate Block - Printable BLM
The students are chocolate block designers, employed to create a range of new sizes for chocolate company. The activity shows uses arrays to represent multiplication and how to record the rows and columns to show multiplication facts.
As they complete each task, the next one becomes more challenging and requires greater creativity.
I would suggest that the first four A4 pages be photocopies to make a double sided A3 sheet that can be folded into a booklet. The final page is a sheet of "choco

Students should have rich tasks that are fun and link their learning to solving everyday problems. Their learning should be challenging and deep. Not just simple methods to get "right answers" but to develop them as thinkers, able to solve problems in preparation for life-long learning.
