This is how I've introduced PEMDAS to my students the past two years! It would be fun to use as an introduction lesson or as a review. The analogy is that each of the orders of operations steps is a person in line for a business. This give some life to all the math steps that can be easy for students to forget. Student can also design their own business the characters are in line for. My students always have a blast making taco, ice cream or pizza stands. They then even like to act out being the

We all love a good mad lib! So I thought why not use it to make math word problems more fun! The best part is that students are just changing minor details in the problems (i.e. names, objects, food, events, locations) that way all the math work and answers are the same! I included an answer key as well! Keep the fun of personalizing it without more work of finding 25 different answers for every problem!

I knew then that expanded form, comparing decimals and rounding decimals was going to be tough if they weren't able to picture what a decimal was. That's when I came up with this method of "building" and visualizing decimals. Tenths = dimes Hundredths = pennies Which that's pretty straightforward... b

As teachers, the worst thing we can do is make learning seem boring. The best thing we can do is ignite in students a curiosity and love of learning that surpasses our classroom walls and changes the world.
