This is my 11th year working with children on the autism spectrum. My students go into the inclusive general education classroom for most content areas using modified work. Most modifications I make include picture/visual supports to increase understanding and maximize student success.
This experiment uses vinegar, baking soda, and dish soap to make a volcano. Students love watch the eruption. The directions use pictures to increase independent skills in completing this experiment. This experiment follows the same format as my visual reciepes.
This includes an 8 page book to describe the location and simple functions of the brain, heart, lungs, liver, intestines, stomach, and kidneys. Each page in the book uses Boardmaker pictures to help students understand the text. The last few pages in this download are Boardmaker pictures that can be used to label a human body and simple Boardmaker sentences to explain the function of 6 organs. My students created a Mr. Potato head using construction paper. They included a body, mouth, arms, eyes, ears, and nose. We then labeled the different body parts. We then completed a worksheet. Student completed sentences like "I smell with my _____". They used pictures to complete the sentences. There is a picture of the finished project completed.
This is a 10 page book and 2 page comprehension worksheet combo. The book introduces the 8 planets and the sun (Pluto not included). The book and comprehension questions are created using Boardmaker. The pictures helps increase students understanding of the text.
This easy to read book teaches students about the ocean, rainforest, desert, forest, arctic, grasslands, and wetlands. Each page focuses on a different habitat. Students will learn about the weather and animals for each habitat. The book give a very basic outline for each habitat. This enables students to grasp an understanding of each habitat while limiting confusion.
This is a 4 page book regarding the 4 seasons. This book uses pictures and words to give students with autism and other disabilities very basic information about the seasons.
Students can cut out various food items, then sort them onto the new food pyramid plate. The pictures are made from Boardmaker. The pictures are also paired with words to help students learn new vocabulary words.
This is a simple to read book that uses pictures to help explain the stages in the butterfly life cycle. The book is simple to read for students with autism. There is also a simple sequencing worksheet attached. There are 2 copies available in the download. The first copy has blank pictures for students to glue the pictures in the correct order. The 2nd has pictures already in the correct sequence. Students match pictures to picture to sequence the life cycle.
This is a short modified book using Boardmaker pictures. Each page of the book introduces a new sense. The book includes comprehension questions as well.
This weather flap book teaches students what they need to wear and/or have for certain weather conditions. Students learn about hot/cold/rainy/cool and windy weather. This book uses pictures to help increase student comprehension and vocabulary understanding.
After reading the 5 senses book, my students completed this pictures/word sort. There is a column for each of the 5 senses and pictures that can be used to describe a sense.
