Back to school means community building! This activity allows students to be creative and compliment each others creativity. Students are given a line and they need to turn it into a picture. When I taught elementary, there was always a student that would cry when they didn't win a game. So, I created a game where animals compete, and every student is a winner when an animal finishes! Students find circular objects and measure the diameter. They use the diameter to find the radius, and then solve for the area and circumference of each circle. You will need circular objects and rulers for this activity.

I don't allow plural words or proper nouns. This is a great activity to do when students finish state testing early.

Fill in a brain with words that start with that letter. Ways to use1) Each student gets the same letter. Have a competition to see who can write the most words in a set amount of time. Optional, assign points for the length of each word: 3-letter words are 3 points each, 4-letter words are 4 points each, etc. 2) Each student gets their own letter. They use a dictionary to find words they know and write them down. (Some letters are harder, such as the vowels, so a dictionary is helpful)
