About the store
In my short career as a school counselor I have held two positions one as an Elementary Counselor. This position was split between two buildings serving students 4K-5. These buildings had a diverse populations and 45% of the households were receiving free or reduced lunch rates. It was a wonderful experience and I learn so much. I left this position to take my dream role within a self contained program for students who have behavioral struggles, mental health issues and traumatic experiences. The program focuses on self regulation and building up your coping skills first and academics second. Many of the students live in toxic stress and come to school with imaginary backpacks of trauma to unpack each day. The staffing consists of a myself, my co-teacher and a paraprofessional. We spend all day co-teaching a mix of skills and academics to help our students be as successful as possible. It is a trauma informed safe environment for kids.
