Lab activities provide an opportunity to practice the process of science. They allow you to do what scientists all over the world do in research laboratories and in the field. Like all scientists, you must follow procedures that ensure your safety. These procedures also ensure that the data you collect is reliable. Unlike most scientists, you will need to fit your experiments into a specific block of time. Thus, your ability to work efficiently will be essential to your success. In this lab, yo

Objective To measure and interpret the forces acting on an object in equilibrium. Background Forces are pushes and pulled exerted by objects on each other. Contact forces occur when objects are touching. Noncontact forces act from a distance. Gravity is a force of attraction between two objects. The amount of gravitational force depends on the mass of the objects and the distance between them. When several forces act on an object, the forces combine to act as a single force. The sum of t
