About the store
I have been teaching for over ten years now--from private schools abroad to all-boys charter schools and GT programs in the States, I've been lucky enough to teach a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds. I've taught everything from 7th grade to university. While others may find it overwhelming or boring, I've always loved the curriculum development part of teaching. I love to see how I can make sure the kids are engaged, learning, and challenged.

Hello! This presentation is meant to be paired with the other AP/ACT/SAT Vocabulary activities found in my store. There you can find other vocabulary resources, such as weekly and monthly quizzes, cumulative exam, study tool, etc.  I usually give my kids the 8 weekly words at the beginning of each week–not including weeks with odd scheduling or a Monday holiday. Whenever I start to teach writing, I like for students to first consider how they write. This quick and easy power point has students think about what they do when they sit down to write: what approach do they take? what blocks do they run into? what strengths do they have? Experience

Teaching style

I am passionate about what I do and try to bring that passion into the classroom. I really want students to be engaged and challenged, but most of all, I want them to step outside their box and comfort zone. I value diversity and I try to act as I preach and bring diversity into the classroom--through literature, through learning styles, and through my approach. I want students to see perspectives beyond theirs and to learn empathy through the stories of others.

My own education history

My parents were in the Army, so I moved around a lot as a kid, which meant moving schools pretty often. It's hard to stay consistent in your learning when you don't go to the same school for more than two years at most. But, luckily, I found a love of learning through reading. I attended East Carolina University for undergraduate and graduate school. I have a BS in English Education and a MA in English. I have a license for 7-12 ELA, as well as a license as a Gifted and Talented Specialist.
