This activity can be used as part of a unit on Immigration. Students take on the role of an immigrant and reflect on what they would be to their new country if they had a limited amount of space. It's a good activity to promote multiple perspectives.
Science Quests are used to guide students through review cycles throughout the school each. Each science quest has a vocabulary review, questions related to the vocabulary review, and a current event/real world connection.
I generally assign these through Google Classroom as a hyperdoc. We review student work at the end of the work in small groups.
The focus of this Science Quest is Mass, Weight, Volume, and Density.
This project is useful when studying the periodic table of elements and/or properties of matter. Students love exploring the various online interactive tables and sharing the final poster products.
Included you will find a PDF and WORD copy of the project so that you can customize it to fit your needs. There is also a rubric included for assessment purposes.
This activity is really fun to do with students. It provides an engineering and design challenge.
This is an open ended challenge will provide an opportunity for students to grapple and build up grit.
This was originally designed as a Hyperdoc but can also be used as a standalone worksheet. I've also include a Word version so you can taylor this challenge to your classroom needs. In addition, you'll find a rubric that can be used to assess student work.

This activity is really fun to do with students. It provides an engineering and design challenge and a great way to introduce/reinforce simple machines. Students need to design and construct a car that is powered solely by a Mousetrap.

This menu is useful for a middle school life science. Below you will find the learning targets and vocabulary that students will explore as they navigate there way through this menu.
Learning Targets:
1. I can describe the many characteristics of populations.
- Target Vocabulary: population dynamics, population, population size, population density, population, age factors, birth rate, death rate
2. I can explain how populations respond to pressures.
- Target Vocabulary: population growth rate,
This learning menu is a great way to differentiate instruction in a science class where students are studying energy concepts. Allow students to learn important energy concepts creating products that are suited to their varied learning styles.
This is a short term project I use with my 8th grade science students at the beginning of the school year. This really helps to show the relevance of science education to their future.
This is the rubric I use with my 8th grade science students. It's standards based on a three point scale. The learning targets for this notebook are below:
-I can maintain an organized notebook.
-I can maintain a science notebook that shows evidence of learning.
