If your students are anything like mine, you've seen them try to 'solve' expressions like 2x + 4 when it's not an equation! This is a great activity for students to practice the skills of SIMPLIFYING and SOLVING. How it works: Scavenger hunt activities are such a hit in my class! In the PDF there are 11 pages, each with a question about either simplifying an expression or solving an equation. The teacher should post these around the classroom. Students can pick any of the papers to start wit
This is a quiz I give to my students covering multi-step equations, using equations to answer word problems, and solving literal equations. Check out the preview to see all the questions on the quiz! An answer key is provided in the file.
This is a great, engaging hands-on activity to practice exponent rules! I call this matching activity "Puzzles of 4". For this activity, you will put students into groups (2-4 students per group, depending on the size of your class). Each group will be given the 16 cut-out puzzle pieces included in this file. The goal of the group will be to put the pieces together into 4 sets of 4. For each set, there is a simplified exponent expression, and 3 exponent problems that all simplify to the same ans

Students can pick any of the papers to start with. The bottom half will have a question. Students will complete the work on their paper, and arrive at an answer. The answers to questions are on the top half of each paper. Students will look around the room for the correct answer, and then go to that paper to complete th
