I have worked as adult ESL instructor and adult GED for five years before starting to work with youth. I worked 6 years working with low levels regular education students and now work with all levels.
7.9(D) solve problems involving the lateral and total surface area of a rectangular prism, rectangular pyramid, triangular prism, and triangular pyramid by determining the area of the shape’s net This comes with notes, dependent practice problems and independent practice problems and a key. The focus concentrates on the TEKS misconceptions and helps the student avoid common errors.
This is a great activity that includes guided notes, independent and dependent practice. This activity focuses on using the surface area formula found on the STAAR reference chart. Activity allows focus on finding P and B. This activity also includes comparing a prism with the net.
I personally used the first two pages as journal notes and the second two pages as independent and dependent practice.
This allows for a guided activity with students and then a dependent or group activity. Students will discover the affect of scale factor on dimensions, perimeter, and area. Process allows for verbal description of how both perimeter and area is affected.
This activity includes a warm up of graphing the relationship of diameter to circumference, a journal focusing on circumference application, classwork circumference, and homework circumference. It includes a key for each.
This includes a journal activity, class work, and homework. There are keys to each activities. They focus on both finding circumference and the relationship between circumference and the diameter.
This presentation takes through the concept of solving for total surface area of a rectangular prism. It includes a warm up, net, grid, and prism forms.
A one page front and back journal page. Addresses surface area with a net, a prism, and introduces them to the formula that is no longer provided on the reference chart.
Simple and easy to follow.
This PDF takes a student through discovering the steps of remaining area after removing a section.
Hands on and great introduction to area of a rectangle. Many possible expansions.
