Description

4th grade math note-taking is so engaging with this math wheel format for taking notes and practicing concepts like comparing decimals; multiplying fractions and whole numbers; place value; number forms; adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing; and more!

What is a math wheel? It's a versatile, note-taking tool you can use for whole class or small group instruction, review, test prep, centers, intervention, and more.

On the math wheel organizers, students:

  • Take notes inside the math wheel
  • Use color, drawing, and doodling to help create memory triggers
  • Complete practice problems in the pattern around the wheel, and
  • Color the background pattern, if desired

Students can keep the math wheels in their interactive notebooks all year as a personal anchor chart/reference sheet.

  • You can even enlarge the math wheels and use them as posters or anchor charts!

Each of the 24 math wheel files includes:

1) THREE versions of student math wheel (s) with sections for each step or definition, depending on the topic:

  • 'Open’ notes for students to add all notes & examples
  • Fill-in notes: helps control uses of space
  • Pre-filled notes for absentees or students who need pre-filled. Answers to examples and practice problems are NOT on this wheel.

⭐️Each version comes with a patterned background and with no pattern in the background.

2) Key with suggested notes

3) Colored sample

4) PowerPoint file with editable templates ~ you can create your own math wheels (for classroom use only, not commercial use)

Features of these easy-to-use 4th grade math wheels:

1) Multiple versions of each wheel

2) Notes sections and examples for guided note-taking

3) Guided or independent practice in the pattern around the circle

4) Coloring/doodling opportunity: students can color the background pattern, as well as the headings and doodle arrows, making the concepts a bit more memorable

Coloring the background, if you use the patterned versions:

  • Students don’t HAVE to color at all during instructional time….coloring the background could be an ‘early finisher’ activity, homework, etc.
  • Students don’t need to color every section of the background – part of their coloring pattern could be to leave sections white.
  • Students could color sections with patterns instead of solids – maybe polka dots in one section and squiggly lines in another.
  • This coloring part is just a chance to be creative and enjoy the stress-relief coloring can provide:-)

My students enjoy coloring so this was an engaging way for them to learn about curriculum topics while letting them color up their wheels. I loved the practice problems provided. We keep these on a ring and refer to them when doing periodic reviews. I loved that we got to weigh in on the background for the wheels and had choices for different students.
