Description
6th grade math doodle wheel notes provide a structured and engaging format for learning and practicing concepts like: multiplying and dividing decimals dividing fractions, inequalities, one-step equations, ratios and unit rates, order of operations, exponents, surface area, and more!
What is a math wheel? It's a versatile, note-taking tool you can use for whole class or small group instruction, review, test prep, centers, intervention, and more.
On the math wheel organizers, students:
- Take notes inside the math wheel
- Use color, drawing, and doodling to help create memory triggers
- Complete practice problems in the pattern around the wheel, and
- Color the background pattern, if desired
Students can keep the math wheels in their interactive notebooks all year as a personal anchor chart/reference sheet.
- You can even enlarge the math wheels and use them as posters or anchor charts!
Each of the 24 math wheel file includes:
1) Student math wheel(s) ~ 23 of the 24 wheels have THREE versions:
- ‘Open’ for students to write notes - this version is most flexible, for you to add the notes you'd like
- ‘Fill-in’ notes, which help control use of space
- Pre-filled notes for absentees or students who need this option
⭐️Each wheel also comes with 2 formats for each version ~ with a patterned background and without (except for coordinate plane b/c the coordinate plane IS the background.)
2) Key with suggested notes
3) Colored sample
4) PowerPoint file with two or more editable templates ~ you can create your own wheels, if you'd like (for classroom use only; not commercial use)
The 24 math wheels address the following 6th grade math topics:
*(2) denotes 2 DIFFERENT wheels for that topic:
- Absolute Value
- Algebraic expressions (parts of and evaluating)
- Area of Quadrilaterals and Triangles
- Box-and-whisker plots
- Coordinate plane
- Dividing decimals
- Dividing fractions (2)
- Equivalent expressions
- Exponents
- Finding GCF and LCM (2)
- Graphing Inequalities
- Integers
- Mean absolute deviation
- Mean, median, mode, range
- Multiplying decimals
- One-step algebraic equations
- One-step inequalities
- Order of operations (2)
- Percent of a number (one version of wheel)
- Proportions and unit rates (2)
- Rational numbers
- Ratios and rates
- Surface area
- Volume
Features of these easy-to-use 6th grade math wheels:
1) Multiple versions of each wheel
2) Notes sections and examples for guided note-taking
3) Guided or independent practice in the pattern around the circle
4) Coloring/doodling opportunity: students can color the background pattern, as well as the headings and doodle arrows, making the concepts a bit more memorable
Coloring the background, IF you use the patterned versions:
- Students don’t HAVE to color at all during instructional time….coloring the background could be an ‘early finisher’ activity, homework, etc.
- Students don’t need to color every section of the background – part of their coloring pattern could be to leave sections white.
- Students could color sections with patterns instead of solids – maybe polka dots in one section and squiggly lines in another.
- This coloring part is just a chance to be creative and enjoy the stress-relief coloring can provide:-)
