Description

If you teach fourth grade math, this is EVERYTHING you need to teach fractions, and cover the Common Core standards! This set was designed so you would have a complete unit. The presentation is so easy to follow that a substitute could even teach new content if you were unexpectedly absent!

Please note, that there is a follow up mini-unit on just the fraction standards that deal with decimals. The amount of fraction standards in the 4th grade was too great to put all into one product. Link below!

Also, this is a great way to help enrich your high-flying third graders, or help reinforce concepts for fifth graders. The presentation could be self-guided when needed!

Please note this product is also included in my Common Core Math: 4th Grade Complete Set (Entire Year) Bundle

There are eight main topics and three reviews for this Fractions unit!

♦Fractions: Parts of a Whole (Review)

♦Decomposing Fractions

♦Equivalent Fractions

♦Comparing Fractions

♦Adding/Subtracting Fractions (like denominators)

♦Mixed Numbers (Review)

♦Decomposing Mixed Numbers

♦Adding/Subtracting Mixed Numbers (like denominators)

♦Improper Fractions to Mixed Numbers (review)

♦Multiplying Fractions by Whole Numbers

♦Recognizing Multiples in Fractions

(This is where they rewrite the multiplication to show the factor of the multiple as well.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Included:

♦ A full in-depth presentation on all topics in the fractions unit, as well as a review of vocabulary in word problems, this includes class practice questions and answers at the end of each section

♦3 Assessments PER main topic. Each topic has a regular practice assessment, an "Application" assessment (word problems, using tables), and a "Test Prep" with multiple choice (all w/ keys!)

♦Assessment for each of the "review" topics

♦A complete unit study guide (w/ key) in the "style" of Common Core assessment

♦A complete unit test (w/key) in the "style" of Common Core assessment

♦Everything you need for a math interactive notebook including a notes/practice page and a foldable/glue-in for each topic. I have included pictures so you can see how I set up my notebook!

♦Vocabulary cards for your room covering: fraction, equivalent, numerator, denominator, improper fraction, mixed number (blanks included!)

♦Five total games that could be used as class/group activities or centers: "Fraction Matching," "Old Man" (Equivalents), "Fraction Battle" (Comparing), "Building Block Fractions" (adding/decomposing fractions), "Cookin' Up Fractions" (multiplication of fractions by whole numbers)

♦Fraction Bars (black and white, color) to use with students

♦Paper die and dice cards if you don't have dice for your room to go with the game!

♦Very detailed notes for you from me on how to use the set! This includes a "Unit Guide" correlating all of the mini-unit/topics in a chart for ease of use and planning!

Explain why a fraction 𝘢/𝘣 is equivalent to a fraction (𝘯 × 𝘢)/(𝘯 × 𝘣) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts referring to the same whole.
