Description
After scrambling for years to come up with a new and varied creative task to start each day, I've finally collected a whole semester BUNDLE of open-ended creative thinking prompts, ready to use on Google Slides with just one click, or to print and hand out.
These 90 Creative Thinking Tasks are perfect for morning work, enrichment, centers, journal prompts, open-ended homework, or fun tasks for early finishers. Each prompt / thinking challenge is open-ended and challenging, and suitable for students of all levels - I've used them down to Kindergarten age, and up to Middle School - and they are always my students' favorite activity of the day!
In this BUNDLE you get:
- 90 Creative Thinking Sheets
- 90 Google Slides
- 90 Full-color task cards
- 90 Black and White Task Cards
In my class I use these for what we call SODA - Start of Day Activities. Students love sharing their ideas with others, and it's a great way to get them excited, engaged, and ready to have a great day.
Having the same routine every morning is an easy way to start the day - the students are independent and engaged from the start.
USING THE WORKSHEETS:
- My students take the page of the day as they walk in the room each morning, then go to their desks and get started.
- I attach clear pockets/folders to a wall or window, and students put their new SODA paper into it each day, in the front. This creates an instant, changing display.
- Every month, I have students choose one or two pages for their portfolio, and the rest are stapled together and sent home to share with parents.
USING THE Google Slides:
Simply project one of these 90 Creative Thinking prompts on your interactive whiteboard, and have students respond in their Morning Work or Creative Thinking journals. This saves paper and means you don't ave any printing/copying to do.
USING THE PRINTABLE TASK CARDS:
Simply print, cut, and use! I print on cardstock to avoid plastic, but your could also laminate the cards to use over and over again. There are 3 cards on each 8.5 x 11-inch page, and I've included color and black & white versions.
You can use these prompts for:
- Centers
- Morning Work / Bell ringers
- Early Finishers
- Creative Thinking Journal Prompts
- Brain Breaks
- Warm Ups
- Fun Friday tasks
- Extension and extra challenge (Enrichment)
- Groupwork
- Time Fillers
- Fun, open-ended homework
Students just think they are having fun, but really they are:
- Writing
- Doing math
- Designing and inventing
- Reading
- Solving Puzzles
- Drawing
- Using STEM skills
- Thinking creatively
Without even realizing it!
Each prompt is open-ended:
- Put aside as little or as much time for this activity as you like - the kids are never 'finished' - just tell them to add more ideas.
- Tasks can be done by students of any level - everyone is challenged and everyone is successful.
Kids love sharing their ideas:
- I usually have my students do a 'gallery walk' afterwards - they leave their journals open on their desks, and walk around the room looking at everyone else's ideas. They love this, and it keeps them accountable as well.
- We also share orally at times too.
90 fun and varied writing or drawing prompts, including:
- Design a better...
- Invent a ...
- What if...
- Would you rather...
- Write a list of things that...
- How many ways can you...
- Write questions with the answer:...
- How many... are there in the room?
- Find the words in the puzzle box
- How many words can you make from these letters?
- Find the hidden pictures
- Draw these shapes and change each one into a different picture
I hope this becomes your students' favorite activity too!
