Description

This is it; the final unit in my newcomer curriculum! This unit is all about teaching directions for ESL students. For unit 11, I am typically teaching this during the first semester of my intermediate level class. Students who arrived the previous school year with no English are ready to learn how to give clear directions. There is a flashcard set, which focuses on community places and people, followed by opportunities to not only learn directions, but other new grammar concepts as well. We polish these new skills by practice with all four domains: speaking, writing, listening, and reading.

This unit takes about five weeks with 80 minute block periods. You can choose to do the end-of-unit project, summative test, or both. Adapt this to whatever will work for you and your students. The digital resources are compatible with Google Classroom.

In addition to your students learning how to give clear directions, this unit reviews singular possessive nouns. It introduces plural possessive nouns, the present perfect progressive tense, adverbs that show sequence, and compound sentences
