Description

This bundle includes 9 of my math projects (PBLs). These are 100% digital via Google Slides. Students practice real life scenarios while integrating math. This are mostly geared for 5th grade but could be used for 4th or 6th depending upon ability.

I love making and giving these projects to my students! I have no immediate plans to make more; however if I do make anymore I will add them to this bundle.

Vacation of a Lifetime PBL

  • Students will be given a 14 page Google Slides Presentation in which they need to plan a vacation for a famous celebrity. They will find a location, find plane tickets costs, hotel costs, plan activities for each day and answer some math questions from the celebrity. They will be given multiple websites that allow students to find flights, hotel and activities. Students will have a limited budget so will need to plan carefully.

Birthday Party PBL

  • Students will be given a 16 slide Google Slides Presentation in which they will pretend they planning a Birthday party for their best friend. They will chose a location, purchase decorations, food, create a floorpan, order party favors, create games and an invitation, hire a cleaning crew and calculate the total cost.

Halloween Party PBL

  • Students will be given a 16 slide Google Slides Presentation in which they will pretend they planning a Halloween party for their class. They will chose a location, purchase decorations, food, create a floorpan, order party favors, create games and an invitation, hire a cleaning crew and calculate the total cost.

Head Chef PBL

  • Students will be given a Google Slides Presentation in which they will pretend they just got a job as a head chef at their favorite restaurant. They will be given a budget in which they must decide on tonight's dinner specials, calculate cost of ingredients, calculate the cost of each serving, calculate the uncharge cost and calculate the profit.

Thanksgiving Dinner PBL

  • Students will be given a slide Google Slides Presentation in which they will pretend they are planning a Thanksgiving dinner for their family. They will be given a budget, and must get the house cleaned, rent table and chairs, purchase tablecloths/tableware, prepare the turkey, purchase ingredients for 3 recipes, calculate cooking times and watch the football game for their favorite team.

Gingerbread House PBL

  • Students will be given a 12 slide Google Slides Presentation. They first build a gingerbread house out of card stock and decorative items (straws, pipe cleaners, cotton balls, etc). Then they will use the dimensions of their gingerbread house and update floor, roof, walls, landscaping, etc and then solve math problems to go with it.

Mother's Day PBL

  • Students will be given a 9 slide Google Slides Presentation in which they need to plan a breakfast for Mother's Day. They will find 3 recipes, list ingredients needed to purchase, calculate the cost of the ingredients (including tax), and answer some math questions from mom. Students will have a limited budget so will need to plan carefully.

Valentine's Day PBL

  • Students will be given a 13 slide Google Slides Presentation. They are the owner of a restaurant and will be preparing for Valentine's day. Students will describe and name their restaurant. Then they will search for an appetizer, dinner and dessert that will be served for the night. Students will calculate the cost of each food item and determine how much to charge. After calculating employee costs students will end the project by determining how much profit they made.

St. Patrick's Day PBL

  • Students will be given a 15 slide Google Slides Presentation. They are the owner of a bakery and will be preparing for St. Patrick's day. Students will adjust the ingredient amounts of 3 treats by multiplying or dividing each ingredient. Then they will shop for ingredients and find the total cost of all the ingredients. Next they will calculate the how much they will earn selling the treats and then subtract the cost to calculate the profit.

I like to give these PBLs during math workshop or math centers (roughly 1 hour a day). When given during that time it will take students approximately 1 week to complete each one.
