Description

NEW! This resource contains quality, EDITABLE sample assessment questions and performance tasks for the Physical Science Performance Expectation MS-PS4-2. Develop and use a model to describe that waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through various materials. It works for both in person and distance learning and includes 5 questions or tasks total which can be edited, copied and pasted into various forms of assessments to align to the NGSS. Links to other online resources to help teach the standard are also provided.

Use these sample questions for: pre-assessments, check-ins or quizzes, unit tests, and/or for your professional growth objectives!

The questions cover the 3 dimensions of the NGSS and include:

  • constructed response questions
  • performance tasks
  • questions with multiple components

This set of questions require students to use Science and Engineering Practices as well as Crosscutting Concepts to demonstrate understanding of the Disciplinary Core Ideas. The SEPs and CCCs are listed for each PE. Keep in mind that the tasks require more time than a standard test question, therefore, there should be fewer questions on a test which allows for more time to solve the problems.

SAMPLE QUESTION:

A student was wading through a shallow, slow moving river searching for stones. She observed a unique rock, but when she initially reached down for it, it wasn’t in the spot it appeared through the water. Observe the model below (provided in document) and answer the questions.

a. Why wasn’t she able to grab the rock on the first try?

b. In the box below, draw a new model that explains where the rock is. Be sure to explain your thinking.

This product includes:

  1. Background info on NGSS assessments and tasks
  2. 5 EDITABLE questions, tasks, etc.
  3. Answer Key
  4. Ideas for differentiation
  5. Links to external resources
