Description
Probability: Permutations and Combinations (Common Core Aligned Lesson)
In this lesson, students learn to compute permutations and combinations. They also learn factorial notation and the Fundamental Counting Principle to compute the number of ways a multi-step process may occur. Lastly, students learn to use these skills to compute the probability of compound events.
This resource includes a lesson plan with worksheet and answer key aligned with the common core. Students build on their understanding of the probability of compound events using permutations and combinations. The worksheet can be used as an in-class handout or as homework. Questions assess interpretation as well as mechanics.
This product includes:
1) Lesson lecture slides in PDF (annotated with notes), PowerPoint, and Google™ Slides (link in PDF)
2) Lesson lecture handouts in PDF
3) Worksheet in PDF and Google™ Slides with editable features (link in PDF)
4) Answer key with and without detailed rubric in PDF
5) A summary sheet relevant to Common Core Standard HSS.CP.B.9 in PDF
Objectives:
1) Learn the Fundamental Counting Principle
2) Learn how to compute and interpret permutations
3) Learn how to compute and interpret combinations
4) Learn how to use the Fundamental Counting Principle, permutations, and combinations to compute probabilities of compound event and solve problems
