Students are engaged in planning the holiday decorating of a children's home. A variety of math and language skills are built into this relevant project. This is a great cooperative group activity, or can be done individually. Editable price pages allow you to customize for your students needs. Here's what's included in this experience:
Activity 1: Descriptive Writing Student reflect on their own experiences and preferences for holiday decorations and write a descriptive paragraph. This will help students with decisions in activity 2.
Activity 2: Decorations Budget Students use a specific budget to make decisions on which decorations they will purchase.
Activity 3: How Many Strands?: Students use measurement and conversion skills to calculate the number of light strands they will need.
Activity 4: That’s A Wrap: Students calculate the volume of different boxes to ensure donated gifts will fit. They also calculate surface area of boxes to make sure they have enough wrapping paper.
Activity 5: You’re Invited: Students use a budget to plan a reception for the kids living in the children’s home. They also design invitations.
Activity 6: Group Presentations with Grading Rubric: Teams create and present posters detailing their decoration plans. A optional grading rubric is included.
