A great way to introduce students to a rock study is to sort rocks.
An overview video
gives you suggestions for ways to adapt these materials to several grade levels.
You'll find worksheets
in English and Spanish, a student text with two reading levels in English and one translated into Spanish, and recordings
of the texts for students who benefit from hearing the text.
Check out the web site
with resources you might consider adding to your unit on rocks and minerals.
It's difficult to say the duration of this lesson, it just depends on how much time you have for sorting rocks!
