Description
This is a game to help students practice simplifying rational expressions in a fun, competitive way. Students will be grouped in teams, and each team will be working to simplify the expression and get a chance to shoot the ball (or item of your choice) into the bucket (or trash can). The questions vary in difficulty with easier questions worth one point up to the harder questions worth 3 points.
1 point questions (blue): Adding and subtracting rational expressions.
2 point questions (purple): Multiplying and dividing rational expressions (factoring with leading coefficient =1).
3 point questions (green): Multiplying and dividing rational expressions (factoring with leading coefficient >1)
Directions on how to play as well as a worksheet for students to show their work is included. Answers are on the slide for immediate checking, as well as an answer key for your reference to check as students are working, depending on how you choose to play.
The only “prep” that you will need to do is to find a “bucket” (or trash can) and a ball (or an item students can throw) and to set up your 3 shooting lines, one for each point value. I recommend sticking painters tape on the floor to mark the shooting lines for quick and easy clean up!
Check out my other Rational Expression Activities:
1. Simplify Rational Expressions Color by Number
2. Operations with Rational Expressions Color By Number
