Description

This activity will have students practicing how to solve equations involving rational expressions. There are a total of 8 problems with 5 problems where solving a quadratic equation is necessary and 3 where it is not. Students will also have to remember to check their final answers for extraneous solutions. I have included an answer box with more answer choices than problems. The extra answer choices include answer choices with those extraneous solutions.

Need a quiz to assess understanding on this topic? I've got that for you HERE! It's a google forms quiz, but also includes a PDF copy for your use!

I used these materials and others to have for homeroom students if they didn't have anything to do. They liked having a pretty fun option and they learned while they did it!

These problems were great! They were a little more challenging that what I expected, but my students persevered through the sheet and finished it so that they could color the picture.

Rewrite simple rational expressions in different forms; write 𝘢(𝘹)/𝘣(𝘹) in the form 𝘲(𝘹) + 𝘳(𝘹)/𝘣(𝘹), where 𝘢(𝘹), 𝘣(𝘹), 𝘲(𝘹), and 𝘳(𝘹) are polynomials with the degree of 𝘳(𝘹) less than the degree of 𝘣(𝘹), using inspection, long division, or, for the more complicated examples, a computer algebra system.
Understand that rational expressions form a system analogous to the rational numbers, closed under addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by a nonzero rational expression; add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions.
