Description
Black History month project, Civil Rights Movement research project
This text structure project and comparison activity is great for RI.4.5, RI.5.5, RI.6.5, RI.7.5, and RI.8.5! It merges social studies with ELA standards beautifully, and your students will have fun with the challenge of creating writing pieces that inform about topics related to the Civil Rights Movement.
Students will create writing about a topic related to the Civil Rights Movement, in a specific text structure. Students must be well-versed in informational text structures, as well as information about the Civil Rights Movement in order to complete this project.
When students have written a sample of each text structure, they then can compare their writing with a classmate's. Through this step, students will discuss and analyze the effect that each structure has on the author's message.
