Description

This product doubles as full digital lessons for the Concept Development portion of No prep-work needed for a full week of first grade math lessons with over 300 slides bundled at a big discounted rate! These lessons support CCSS Operations and Algebraic Thinking (particularly CCSS.1.OA.1, CCSS.1.OA.4, and CCSS.1.OA.5) as well as Standard Mathematical Practices (particularly MP2,MP3, MP4, and MP6). It is designed for early first grade (particularly Topic H Lessons 28-32 of Module 1 Eureka) but can also be used for second half of kindergarten or to supplement or enhance other curriculums as it focuses on the same standards. It can also serve as a great review for second grade.

This entire product line doubles as an interactive Google Slide digital lessons for the Concept Development portion Engage New York Eureka program to be displayed on your Smart Board or shared on your screen and also contains interactive Google slides for independent or small group practice after the whole group lessons to be assigned or shared virtually to put the lesson into practice.

In Topic H enhances the comprehension of the direct relation between addition and subtraction facts and deciding the quickest and most efficient way to solve a word problem by choosing operation to use (1.OA.4) all while using various word problem types (1.OA.1). Lesson 28 takes students on an adventure underseas. The Math Detectives follow underwater in their submarine and model how to solve take away with result unknown problems. Students will learn the act of crossing off their drawings as they take away resulting in a lesser amount. Then lesson 29 takes the students on a fishing adventure where the Math Detectives model circling the known part in the word problems. Students will learn key terms to look for such as "were left" or "the rest" and determine that this does not always indicate the operation that will be easiest to solve. Most importantly, the students will learn that there is more than one way to solve a problem. Lesson 30 furthers the connection between addition and subtraction as teachers have students discuss ways to attack add to with change unknown word problems, as they use simple math drawings and equations to represent the problem and solution. The Math Detectives continue to follow their camping adventure and model how to solve problems such as the food left in the cooler when a hungry bear comes and eats "some" of it. In Lessons 31 and 32 the Math Detectives solve more camping word problems as the campers go hiking and mountain biking. The students learn more strategies to organize their math drawings such as crossing out the unknown and labeling their number bonds.

Slides are designed to appear as though you are looking through binoculars, using a camera, looking through a magnifying glass, using a flashlight, and taking notes in a notepad like a real detective hunting for number clues! The scenes in this product presents a storyline similar to word problems and promotes problem-solving skills and is designed to promote student discourse and discussion to learn to explain their mathematical thinking.

Use these lessons as whole group shared on your Interactive whiteboard, shared on your screen on Google Meet or Zoom for distant learning, or as a small group lesson in present mode. Each slide is annotated with dialogue in speech bubbles to guide your lesson, but feel free to make it your own! Each slide is designed to serve as a foundation for which math discourse in the classroom can build and grow.

After the lessons are the independent slides for students. You can assign these slides in Google Classroom or on Seesaw (or any other program that supports Google slide products). Simply hold "ctrl" to select the slides you want to assign, go to file and make a copy. From there you can assign as you normally would on your preferred digital platform. These slides are interactive when in edit mode only! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here or you can email me (see my TOU below for contact information).
