Are your students often described as hands-on or multisensory learners?

Mine are too. I love that interactive Language Sticks can be incorporated into a mixed group activity or used on their own. Students are able to interact with the Language Sticks, adorning them with clothespins, playdough, beans, small rocks, etc. It helps bring controlled choices into your therapy room as students can choose their sticks/manipulatives/reinforcement yet you provide the foundational materials that target their goals (i.e., answering wh- questions). It is a win-win.

Do you feel like you spend the majority of your time taking data and less time really instructing students on the targeted skill?

I did. We live in a data driven world. I needed to find a balance between obtaining the data needed to support my students’ goals and instructing them how to improve the actual skill. I felt most of my time was spent assessing what they did not know with minimal instruction to teach those skills. Language Sticks allow me to instruct my students in a systematic manner with a direct correlation to application of learned skills.

The small size of the stimulus items makes them also great to use in sensory bins or to accompany crafts. Simply, print them out and cut them apart.

The materials took some time to print out, cut, and put onto paint stir sticks, but wow, do my students love using this activity! The data sheets are super handy and make progress monitoring a breeze. Well worth it!
