Positive Phone Calls Home!

I make regular, positive phone calls home, DURING class time. Students gather at carpet and listen to the phone call. They never know who I am calling, until they hear me chatting with a parent or leaving a message. If the parent is available, they chat with their child for a moment, reinforcing the purpose of the call. If a message is left, the child is encouraged to listen to the message with their parent when they get home. Not only do I love making the calls, parents and students LOVE Po

About the store

Experience

I've taught 1st and 2nd Grade for 15 years. Prior to teaching, I was a teacher assistant, working with students with special needs, in grades K-6.

Teaching style

Teaching how students learn. Sounds easy? This is what I strive for every day. It's very challenging but when you find 'that way' to help a child make gains- it's all worth it!

Awards & shining teacher moments

Honours? The fact that parents put their trust in me to help their child succeed to the best of their ability. Awards? That feeling when a child who has struggled suddenly has the 'light bulb' flash on. There is nothing more rewarding or more honourable.

My own education history

I was a late starter, enrolling in post secondary when I was 35 years old. I was an Educational Assistant, working with students with special needs. My administrators encouraged me to return to school to become a teacher. It took some time, but I mustered up the courage to return to University, earned my B.Ed. degree, and began teaching at age 39.
