Practice Makes Perfect is an Early Childhood/Elementary Education teacher from Southwestern Pennsylvania. After graduating college, she moved to South Florida, where she taught kindergarten in the Palm Beach County School District for 8 years. After having children, she decided (with her husband) that Florida was too far away from the rest of the family, and she moved back to her hometown, where she took a few years off to spend time with her son. Lesley has also taught 2nd and 3rd grade Spanish and 4th grade social studies. #fall23deals A resource for you to use if you wish to present a different point of view about Columbus’ journey and the effect it had on the Native Americans who already lived on the islands he explored in the Caribbean. I know when I was in school, no one even mentioned the fact that a whole group of people were there before Columbus “discovered” “America.” As I’ve done more research, it became clear that there is more to the story of Columbus than we were taught. Halloween Math Relating Addition and Subtraction Candy Corn Puzzles

Celebrate National Candy Corn Day on October 30 with this fun center activity. We have been learning how addition and subtraction are related to each other in math. Every chance I get, I point out to the children that "If I know 2+3 = 5, then when I see 5 - 3, I just think 2+3 = 5, so 5 -3 must equal 2. I created this math center (or file folder game) to reinforce the relationship betwen addition and subtraction. I have included a math worksheet to go along with the center or for you to use

Teaching style

Eclectic and dynamic. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, a dash of technology. Constantly moving, learning, and growing.

Awards & shining teacher moments

My shining teaching moment is hard to pinpoint. I don't tend to think of myself in those terms (maybe I should). But a moment that sticks out in my mind was when I accepted a child into my classroom diagnosed with PDD. Being in a Catholic School, the principal left it up to me to decide. After talking to the parents and ensuring parental support, I said yes. It wasn't easy, and there were some tough days, but with the support of his parents and a wonderful TSS, he had a fantastic year. He remains my favorite student to this day.
