My name is Christy and this is my sixteenth year teaching. I am currently the gifted and talented specialist at my school, but I have also taught fourth grade, fifth grade, sixth grade, and one year of middle school reading.
I love project based learning. The process students go through as they engage in the unit is so rewarding. It is an excellent way to differentiate based on readiness and interests for all learners. This way their individual talents can be nurtured and any gaps in their learning can be addressed. In addition, students feel a true sense of ownership in the project and are more vested. I also love incorporating cooperative learning activities where students have to work together to achieve a common goal and interactive hands on games. Any time students have fun, they are more likely to stay engaged and learn the material that needs to be mastered.
Yet to be added
I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University. In addition, I have my GATE and Technology endorsements.
My teaching philosophy is that all students have the ability to learn as long as they have a strong support system, set goals, work hard, and ask questions.
