This activity can also be used as a center or for ‘word work’

Practicing nonsense words supports phonemic awareness (knowledge of sounds) and increases confidence when reading.   It forces children to apply letter-sound rules while reading, rather than relying on context or memorization.  Nonsense words ensure students can read unfamiliar words and become fluent readers. This packet includes monthly nonsense word fluency practice. It also includes nonsense word flash cards for additional practice.
