2D Flat and 3D Solid Shapes Pack

Created by
JAWTeach
This packet includes a shapes PowerPoint that asks students to identify both 2D flat and 3D solid shapes in everyday objects. The packet also includes a 2D flat/3D solid shape sort and three worksheets asking students to identify and color 2D flat shapes in various arrangements. The 2D shape ID activities increase in difficulty. They are ideal to be used as quick whole class assessments. These shape activities align with common core for kindergarten.

Flat Shape Book: Shared Math Writing

This a WHOLE CLASS ACTIVITY, copy the last page as many times as you need. In my K/1 classroom, each student would build a "real-world" picture (house, car, etc.) with flat shapes. I then took a picture and added it to the book. Once they have the shapes on their page, they write a sentence using grade-level, content vocabulary. This a great way to incorporate shared writing and reading into a math class!

2D Shape Assessment

This product can be used as a post assessment. Allow students to color each shape a different color (teachers choice). Then allow the students to fill in how many corners and sides the shape has. Standard: MGSEK.G.3 Identify shapes as two dimensional (lying in a plane, “flat”) or three dimensional (“solid”).

In this first lesson students explore the relationship between 2D shape and 3D form while learning to draw 3D form (cylinders). Topics covered - parallel lines, ellispe's, rotating shape and forms, geometry. By exploring geometric forms students will begin to develop confidence to develop the skill to move from the flat picture plane to one that shows depth. Other topics touched upon are the effect of light and shade on the 3D Form. This lesson was developed by Julian W. Jakubson
