This is an unplugged coding activity. It is an exercise that teaches the following of an algorithm. The algorithm contains all the control structures: sequences, decisions and loops. It is important for children to identify each structure and to notice the precision of the instructions. In the end children will create a christmas tree by following the instructions.

Common Core: Grade 5 Math Documentation
The documentation sheet lists each standard (color coded) and their parts with columns for the date and brief description of the lesson. By giving a brief description of the lesson, my goal is to use different methods so students who do not understand the first time have another chance. This is a great way to keep track of what standards you have taught, as well as when and how the standards was taught.
