R.U.L.E.R. Aligned "Mood Meter Message"

Created by

This resource might be helpful for teachers who stress social emotional well-being, and are looking for a way to solve conflict, and check in on students in their classroom. Modeled after the R.U.L.E.R. social emotional program, and their Mood Meter, this message can be filled out by students during times of distress, so that they have the opportunity to be self-aware and address their emotions.

Glory Parent Permission Letter

I showed this film during every single one of my U.S. Civil War units (8th and/or 11th grades). It is rated R, but it is a mild R rating; if it were made today, I believe it would receive a PG-13 rating. Nonetheless, a parent permission letter was required. In 18 years of teaching, I never received a letter back through which the parent/guardian had not agreed for the student to watch it. It's a classic!

This is a generic template for a movie permission slip. This one is for Hacksaw Ridge, but you can easily swap out movie information. Since rated R movies need parental permission to watch in public schools, I change this form depending on which rated-R movie is shown in class. Included is a movie bio as well as the reasons why we are watching this movie in class (educational value).
