This Authentic Assessment/Project is designed to help students increase their understanding of fractions, decimals, area, and place value. Directions: You have been hired as an architect to design the new zoo coming to Statham, Georgia. You must draw the blueprints to ensure that the zoo and all of the cages have the right dimensions. It will be vital to the survival of all of your animals that you carefully select the space needed for each animal’s living space.

Students are required to make 7 statements involving the real world in which they use a fractions, decimal, and percent. Then they draw a picture to decorate it a bit. It uses one sheet of paper folded in 8 parts. An example, along with ideas, are included in the project description.
