Jobs for Daily Building- Cardboard Construction: Architecture through History

I have students complete my "personality quiz" to determine what job they will be best suited for, on day 2 of this lesson and I create their groups. We start building on day 4 or 5 depending on how long it takes for the students to complete their blueprints. When blueprints are complete, building begins. These are the tasks each member of the group is responsible for.

Data Analysis Project Accuracy of Time Telling Devices

Middle school students discover the accuracy of ancient and modern time-telling devices. This project is part of a bundle: Ancient Time Bundle. Measuring time has continuously evolved throughout human society. Modern time-telling devices measure in its smallest unit, increasing its accuracy compared to ancient clocks of early civilizations. This project aims to have students collect, analyze, compare and interpret data to understand the importance of accuracy in measuring time. The resourc

Ship Signatures - Angles Geometry - 21st Century Real World Math Project

Keeping our Navy safe is a tricky proposition in today’s world. Sonar and radar systems are designed to find ships, and if an enemy finds one, it could increase the danger for those onboard. A ship’s signature is a measurement of how visible it is on radar. Right angles in a ship’s design increase its signature because it is more identifiable as a manmade object. Every aspect of the ship is designed to avoid right angles. In this 21st Century Math Project, you will be given a mapping to the Con

PROJECT - Measuring the Perimeter of Your Bedroom

Created by
Jeff Minkowsky
In this project, the student should take a tape measure, ruler, or yardstick and measure the lengths of the walls of their bedroom. They add the measurements and compute the perimeter. Then they ask an adult or older sibling to do the same. Finally, they calculate the percent error based on the parent's / older sibling's measurements. This is a great "distance learning" project.

Applesauce Yield Lesson-Cooking Activity for Applied Math or Culinary Arts/FACS!

In this lesson, students work in small groups to make the concepts of yield percent, fabricated cost and cost per portion come to life. Also works with the whole class working together to make one pot of applesauce if you don't have access to enough kitchen equipment. You can use any quantity of apples you like to make the lesson longer or shorter in terms of prep time. If you haven't taught yields already, use my Yields slideshow to introduce the lesson and then follow up with this activity.
