My Dream Vehicle Gr 6-9 Math Project: Percents, Interest, Decimals
This project was designed with a certain group in mind - disengaged boys.
In this 20 page math project, students choose a vehicle from a newspaper or the local buy/sell/trade paper.
They'll choose what upgrades they'd like to make (new tires, paint job etc.) and then calculate the cost of the vehicle, with taxes, the upgrades- with taxes to figure out how much money they need from the bank.
Students also need to calculate the interest on their bank loan and their monthly payment.

How to budget money is a skill that many students have never been taught and therefore many adults lack. This package contains 2 parts: Creating a Grocery Budget and a Monthly Budget for all Bills.
These challenges (as I like to call them) require students Grades 7-9 (or higher) to plan for a month's worth of grocery shopping and basic house bills that they will have when they are out on their own.

This is a worksheet to go with a math basketball game to be played in class. It is suggested to play with cups taped to the board and paper balls or ping pong balls. The practice involves recording their shots, determining their shooting percentages, and creating fractions and ratios based on their scores. As an extra challenge, the students have space to find the circumference and area of the hoop.

Percent Choice Board Using the Multiple Intelligences
Students will complete assignments from a choice board. I assigned my students to pick four boxes, but any number of boxes could be selected. Each assignment is based one of the eight multiple intelligences.

This fun project on consumer topics originally created to be used as a "holiday shopping project". It has now been made generic for any time of the year, but is easily customizable. It is a great way to assess a unit over percent proportions.
