Students can use chart with dry-erase markers to practice saying big numbers. Especially useful with Special Education students who need extra practice writing bigger numbers with commas. When introducing to Special Education students, the teacher can associate each color with each place value.

Math Task Level Rubric
This rubric was created by my 4th grade math students to determine their level of participation and understanding during an activity. They wanted to see what a successful attempt at a math task would look like. They wanted to compare where they were academically at the beginning of the year to where they are now. This rubric is very simple and student friendly. It should generate a lot of conversations from students regarding their ability to accomplish a task.

Rainbow 2-digit times 2-digit multiplication
Color coding multiplication has worked wonders for my students to understand traditional algorithm in 2-digit times 2-digit multiplication. This is a strategy I have been using for the past several years. I make a big deal about the red and blue step having the potential for carried numbers, while orange and purple will not. I also call the green step the money step because if they don't remember to drop that zero they will only make $50, instead of $500. I stress this a great deal. The second

Color-coded multiplication table First, find the numbers you need to multiply. Then find the square where the two numbers meet (as if you drew two imaginary lines). For example, 8*9 =72, if you drew two straight lines both numbers would meet at 72!
