Pumpkin Patch Synonyms and Antonyms
This is a great formative assessment to use with students in the ELA setting to make sure that they understand the difference between a Synonym and an Antonym. This is also a wonderful way to get the students engaged in using a dictionary as well as a thesaurus. Just print out the pages and hand them to students with an orange and a black crayon. Make sure that students have a dictionary and a thesaurus on hand. For first time users it would benefit them to put them in partners or small groups.

Freedom Songs
Music was an important part of the Civil RIghts Movement. Having students analyze song lyrics can increase interest and participation while connecting them to culture. The corresponding questions relate to course content like symbolism, theme, figurative language, direct text evidence, allusion, and the Civil Rights Movement. The formatting may look a little wonky on a Word Document. I recommend putting this on a GoogleDoc and setting it to "pageless."
