Statistics and Probability: Scatter Plots and Best Fit Lines
This is a 9 day lesson plan (powerpoint and hard copy) covering the topics of scatter plots and best fit lines. Each lesson includes a review question, discussion, problems for teacher to model, and problems for the students to try. Excel Data Analysis Project
This mini Project covers the concepts of scatterplots and linear regression lines using data analysis in Excel. The project introduces the concepts of scatterplots and lines of best fit, has students work through a basic analysis of a data set using Excel, then has students complete a more complex analysis of a baseball data set. I Do Solemnly Swear...(Statistics Project)
This is a statistics project that can be modified to fit grades 6 to 12. This can also be done by hand or in excel. It would be a great assignment to use as a unit project or as a group presentation. It is a cross curriculum activity that will combine history and math together to give the kids a great way to explore box and whisker plots, bar graphs, pie charts, and more. Because this is statistics, you can change the way the graphs are created to fit the need of the course you are teaching!

Geometry Probability Project - Connected Visuals (Venn, Tree, 2-Way Tables, etc)
This project has students collecting class data and displaying it in multiple ways, showing how those ways are connected. It helps them work with a Venn Diagram to represent "AND" from the cells in a 2-way Table and shows those cells in a Tree too. Students create the different types of questions that will be on the assessment: basic, "and", "or", "given" and independent. My "Sample" had my tree symbolically mislabeld (the M should be P(MlF) or P(MlF') etc and I would have liked all the "And"s l

Statistical Inquiry Project (introductory slides & rubric)
This project walks students through the entire process of doing their own statistical investigation during a 6th-grade statistics unit. Each student creates a question, gathers data, analyzes what they find, and explains their conclusions. As they learn new ideas in class, they put them to use right away in their own project. I created this as a way for students to practice the topics they were learning, while also giving them a chance to explore something that genuinely interests them.

Students will create a survey question which yields numerical responses. They will have to find the mean, median, mode, range, outliers of the data. They will create a box-and-whisker plot, line plot, and find the mean absolute deviation of their data.

This is a project that I use in my classroom to teach students how the stock market works and what the data looks like after a period of at least three months. Students record data findings weekly, and after a period of at least twelve weeks, the graph their findings. This is useful in illustrating how the stock market goes up and down with the events that are happening throughout the world.

This is a project I had my 7th graders do on probability. They had to create a probability problem and come up with 5 questions to ask about their problem. I used a word document so you can change the dates and times needed for your students.
I let my students work on this in class and home if they wanted to, but having it completed by the due date was their responsibility.
