This letter is meant to go home multiple times a trimester to update parents on their students' progress through Accelerated Reader. Both the parents and students sign the bottom to indicate they are aware of the progress. Included in each letter is the student's STAR reading range, the percent towards their personal goal, the percent of how far through the trimester it is, average percent correct on quizzes, and average reading level. Alpha Byte Critters Letter Sizing is a perceptual-motor strategy that correlates letter size with corresponding animals: a giraffe for tall letters, a turtle for short letters, and a monkey tail for long letters that go under the line. Students, such as some with autism, who have difficulty with concepts related to perceptual sizing for letter formation, can increase success forming their letters when given a visual, familiar reference.
