This is an editable bar graph worksheet (you can add your own questions) and differentiated for gifted students as well (two sets of data--boy/girl). Students will come up with their own survey questions and then survey the class and collect data to make their own graph, then answer questions based on their graph. When I did this lesson, I had students write down three questions on the day before the actual bar graph lesson so that I could pick one that would make most sense on a bar graph. Y

Fun Skittles Scatter Plot Exit Slip Practice

Use this template as a fun (and delicious way) to practice different scatter plots. The teacher will call out a type of scatter plot (negative, positive, outlier, cluster, etc) and students will demonstrate it with skittles. This makes a great, quick exit slip or warm up. My students enjoyed this so much, and it was great practice!

Students will complete a table of free throw attempts and successful free throws. I suggest giving a time limit to complete this rather than a certain number of free throws. Students then list from greatest to least the fraction of successful free throws to free throw attempts for their group. Students also look at NBA and WNBA data for free throws and answer: 2. Why do you think the women in the WNBA have a higher free throw average in general than the men in the NBA?

Case File 8.SP — 8th Grade Statistics Escape Room (8.SP)

Put your students on the case! In this 8th grade statistics escape room, students take on the role of detectives analyzing four evidence files — each hiding a clue inside a statistical dataset. File 1 covers scatter plot construction and association description (positive/negative, linear/nonlinear, strength, outliers). File 2 focuses on lines of best fit — writing equations from two points, interpreting slope and y-intercept in context, and using equations to make predictions. File 3 digs deeper

This is a project I have done at the end of a Statistics unit in Algebra 1. Students survey at least 20 people with two quantitative questions and do a correlation study. The students make a scatter plot and find the line of best fit. Then, they find the linear regression and r value in a calculator and interpret them.

My school uses JUMP Math and I fold it into a Kathie-Nunley-style Layered Curriculum Unit. This is the second of two Data Management Units--I circle back around to Probability at the end of the year. I use "Level 2, 3, and 4" instead of "C", "B", and "A" because our school uses Ontario's level-based marks instead of letter grades. The download file is in MSWord format, so you can change this back easily. If you want to know about the activities listed on the sheet, feel free to contact me and
